Hydropower consultations continue in Georgetown

 Georgetown : Consultations for the construction of the much talked about Amaila Hydropower Project (AHP) to garner the views of the wider society has commenced. Officials from Sithe Global Power engaged stakeholders and interested persons in discussions with regards to the project which is expected to produce up to 165 Megawatts of electricity. 

 The AHP consists of a hydropower dam built at the junction of the Amaila and Kuribrong rivers. The electricity will be generated by specially-designed and purpose built turbines and deliver substations in Linden and Sophia by a new 270KV long and 230KV high voltage transmission lines. 
Senior Vice President, Development, Jim McGowan said that at present Sithe Global is negotiating with two lending companies to assist with financing; however, the power company will be putting in majority of the equity into the project. 
Financing of the project is estimated at approximately US$650M to US$700M, the plant itself has an estimated cost of US$320M to US$325M, while the transmission lines amount to US$120M to US$130M.
