House of Assembly debates Cultural Industries Bill

The cultural industries are expected to be the next big money earner for the local economy this was disclosed by Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley during the second reading of the Cultural Industries Bill in the House of Assembly this morning.

Lashley told Parliament that it is the intention of the Govenment to make  the cultural industries into a major revenue earner for Barbados.

The Minister said  that for Barbados to generate significant foreign exchange and reap other benefits, it must first provide the necessary support  the sector desperately needs.

Minister Lashley says stakeholders and artistes in the cultural industries have been battling against the odds, with little or no financial support for far too long.

He explains the Cultural Industries Bill will help to address the  economic issues facing the country and assured artistes that they will get their fair share of rewards and support under the act.
