Home Affairs Ministry to tackle security for Chinese nationals

Georgetown: The Chinese Association has joined forces with the Ministry of Home Affairs to address Chinese immigrant and nationals’ security in Guyana. At the request of the Chinese Association, the Ministry of Home Affairs brought together a group of Chinese leaders to discuss the issue and develop strategies to deal with it.

President Donald Ramotar, on April 15, following a meeting with immigrants and non immigrants at the Guyana International Conference Centre (GICC) had committed to prioritising a number of agenda issues towards assuring that the Chinese are comfortable and enjoy a hassle free stay in Guyana. During that meeting, the Chinese nationals had raised their concerns pertaining to security. Minister Rohee explained that during that meeting it was realised that the language barrier was a constraint to the Chinese effectively communicating their concerns. He said that it was felt that the meeting with the Association would result in better articulation of the problems and therefore resolutions.

A similar meeting will soon be held with representatives of the Brazilian community.
