Hindus celebrate Maha Shivratri

Georgetown : Today Hindus in Guyana and around the world observe and celebrate Maha Shivratrii in reverence of Lord Shiva. It is also known as Padmarajarathri. Shivaratri literally means the great night of Shiva or the night of Shiva. It is celebrated every year on the 13th night/14th day of the Maaga and Phalguna month of the Hindu Calendar.

In Guyana the observances started at 5:30am with prayers and devotion to Lord Shiva.
