Guyana to strengthen trade relations with Pakistan

GTAGeorgetown: Acting Minister of Tourism Industry and Commerce, Irfaan Ali welcomed the High Commissioner (Designate) from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, H.E Nasrullah Khan, during a courtesy visit at the Housing Ministry Wednesday afternoon.

Among the issues discussed during the engagement was the strengthening of trade relations between the two countries; Minister Ali also opined that Guyana is in a strategic position to be considered as a ‘Packaging and Processing’ Hub between North America, South America and the Caribbean and called on the Pakistini High Commissioner to examine this possibility.

“These are good ideas, I will certainly send the Trade Commissioner to explore the possibilities to increase trade,” High Commissioner Khan noted.

The Tourism Minister discussed the possibility of a language exchange programme, which he said would be advantageous to Pakistan and integral to the advancement of the country on the international front.

He explained, “Final year University Students can come to Guyana to learn English, this would also be important to development.”

Minister Ali noted too the impact of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and the contribution of Pakistani players, noting that opportunities abound for Pakistanis to travel to Guyana for the next CPL tournament matches to be played in Guyana, this year.

Alluding to accessibility to the Destination, the Tourism Minister pointed to the advantages of COPA’s entry into the Guyana market and the remarkable reduction in travel time between countries.

“Connectivity will certainly open,” the Pakistani High Commissioner concurred.

 The High Commissioner (Designate) from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, H.E Nasrullah Khan earlier on Wednesday presented his letters of Commission to His Excellency, President Donald Ramotar at the Office of the President; High Commissioner Nasrullah is stationed in Brasilia.
