Guyana to host COTA’s 23rd General Assembly & Technical Conference

Georgetown : Guyana will be hosting, The Caribbean Organisation of Tax Administration’s (COTA) 23rd General Assembly and Technical Conference which is scheduled to open in Georgetown on July 20, 2014.

The conference will be held in the country for the first time is slated to run from July 21 – 25, 2014 and will be held at the Pegasus Hotel, Kingston, Georgetown, a release from the Guyana Revenue Authority stated.

The event which will commence with an opening ceremony on Monday, July 21 will see Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh delivering the feature address.  

In addition, the conference which will be held under the theme “Efficient Tax Administration as a Catalyst for Growth and Development in CARICOM” will see Tax Administrators from across the region deliberating on a number of tax issues, exchanging ideas and sharing experiences in-keeping with the theme for the shaping of useful approaches in tackling common problems among administrations.

COTA was established in 1971 at a meeting of the Heads of Regional Tax Administration convened in Saint Lucia when its Constitution was ratified.

 Guyana held the presidency for the period 1984-1986 through Mr. Edgar Heyligar, then Commissioner, Inland Revenue Department.
