Guyana Islamic Trust commits to work Government’s social agenda

unnamed (18)Georgetown : All assurance has been given to Head of State David Granger that the Guyana Islamic Trust (GIT) will continue to complement the social agenda of the new administration. Executives of the organisation, Mohamod Mujay, Wazir Baksh and Mohamed Haseeb met with the President at the Ministry of the Presidency where brief discussions were held in this regard.

Mr. Mujay in an invited comment said he believes that the work done by the GIT as it relates to fighting social ills in society can be enhanced with some amount of government interventions.

“The organisation has always been working with the government of the day and, so we have seen it fit to come and have a discussion because of our community work and social relief work. It is something to complement what the government is doing.”

The GIT is a multi-faceted, not for profit organisation, which has been established since 1978.It has dedicated itself to the process of bringing about intellectual, moral, and spiritual improvement to individuals, families, and communities in Guyana.

Also several members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat were privileged to meet with President Granger today.

According to Abdur Rahman Khan, a Missionary from Berbice, attached to the organisation, during the meeting the President was assured of their commitment to working closely with the new administration, as well.

Khan said the organisation would be working with the government to further social skills throughout the country. The organisation also took the time to congratulate the President on his assent to the highest office of the land as they pledged to work toward social cohesion and national unity as is being sought by the new administration.
