G/town looks dim on Day of Mourning

Georgetown : The commercial areas in the capital city, Georgetown, today did not attract the regular heavy traffic and business as usual. The main opposition A Partnership For National Unity (APNU) called today “A Day of Mourning “ for the loss of lives of three people gun down during a protest action in the mining town of Linden last week.

One businessman on Regent Street says “the area looks like a ghost town and no business doing”.

After noon today a protest march is schedule through the streets of Georgetown and already some businesses have started to close their doors, afraid of any actions of riot.

Information reaching TrakkerNews is that groups of people from the village of Buxton on the East Coast of Demerara, a community that was once known as a troubled village with criminal activities, have started to erect tires with logs to block the road way on the Railway embankment. As the word spread, motorists have refused to journey through that area. The only other access is the public road which is under rehabilitation for an extension of a four lane. This has caused a congession of traffic.

Meanwhile at 2pm, there is a special sitting of the National Assembly where opposition leader David Granger will move a no confidence motion to have the Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee demit office in wake of the Linden Protest shootings.

TrakkerNews learnt that Granger has already sent the motion to the speaker of the National Assembly Raphael Trotman. Several matters that were to come up today will be differed to allow the motion to be heard.
