Georgetown: A motion has been tabled by A Party for National Unity (APNU), Carl Greenidge, to have the National Assembly cause action to be taken to allow for the full records of the National Assembly for the timeline January 1985 through December 1992.  Based on the motion is required that the details be submitted at least within two months of the publication of the motion which is dated March 26, 2012.

The move by the APNU Shadow Minister and the former Finance Minister (under the PNC Regime), is aimed challenging all unfounded reports that suggest unaccountability during the PNC Regime as it relates to the country’s coffers.

Greenidge’s record as Finance Minister has been severely bashed by members of the ruling party including current Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh and former President Bharrat Jagdeo. It was just recently that Greenidge had responded to accusations stating, “if they believe that I had breached the financial regulations in any way then they can move to prosecute me.”

The APNU Shadow Minister in his motion points out that “if these documents cannot be found or have been destroyed, that the Speaker is to institute an enquiry into the said disappearance or destruction of those records and report the findings to the National Assembly within one month after the tabling of this motion.”

He has emphasized too that the motion takes cognizance that the “Official Reports (Hansard) for the period January, 1985 to December, 1992 are the records of the decisions pertaining to the management and debates over the Economic Recovery Programme and other critical decisions in the management of the political economy of Guyana.”
