Granger re-elected as PNCR leader, Norton withdraws

grangerGeorgetown: David Granger was Sunday afternoon reelected as PNC/R Leader of after his rival Aubrey Norton withdrew in protest over the arrangements for voting at the party’s Congress at Sophia.

Voting had already been marred by a commotion created by Region 10 delegates which led to the firing of a shot by a security guard.

Brigadier David Granger has been returned unopposed as Leader of the People’s National Congress after longtime party member Mr. Aubrey Norton indicated that he was no longer contesting for the leadership. Voting was delayed for several hours due to complaints of an inflated delegates list. Every effort was made to reconcile the situation, thus delaying the process. At 1345 Mr. Norton declined and the process of selecting the other party officers continues.

Under the theme “PNCR (People’s National Congress Reform) for National Unity, Good Governance and Development,” the Party hosted its Congress.

This marks the 18th Biennial Congress of the Party, which commenced Friday and conclude on Sunday. More than 1,000 delegates and observers from across the country as well as the North American and UK Regions participated.

Region 10 Chairman, Sharma Solomon, and long time Party member Aubrey Norton for the first time contested for the party leadership. For the post of party Chairman, Solomon and Norton along with Basil Williams will be contesting. Williams is the present Chairman.

And as Volda Lawrence, George Norton, Sharma Solomon and Stanley Paul contest for Vice chair positions, Ronald Bulkan and Clement Corlette are the only two in the race for the designation of Treasurer. Bulkan is the current Treasurer and Lawrence and Norton are the two Vice Chairs.
