GPP will fight with Channel 6

Georgetown : Presidential hopeful Peter Ramsaroop speaking out of the United States of America where he is on a campaign said his party the Guyana People Partnership (GPP) will stand and fight with Channel 6 in the recent attempt to shut the television station down.

“This demonstrates that President Jagdeo is vindictive and want to shut down free speech in Guyana prior to the 2011 elections,” Ramsaroop said.

The GPP stands ready to make this an international issue.

CNS TV 6 along with Anthony Vieira, former owner of VCT 28 and PNC member of Parliament was recently sued by Chairman of the Ethnic Relations Commission Bishop Juan Edghill in excess of $50M for slanderous statements made by Mr. Vieira on CNS TV 6.

The Advisory Committee on Broadcasting (ACB) has taken up the matter and has to make a recommendation to the Minister of Information President Bharrat Jagdeo, what steps shoud be taken. CNS 6 lawyers have since filed an injusction restraining the ACB, since they claim the body is acting unconstitutional.
