GPHC and JICA collaborate to enhance Paediatric care

Georgetown : The Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) continues to send its volunteer nurses to work with the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

This year’s volunteer to GPHC is a nurse with approximately 30 years experience, a Post-Graduate Research Specialist and an experienced Paediatric Nurse Educator.

Retired Staff Nurse and Administrator, Ms. Sumiko Yoshida is the second JICA nurse to have come to Guyana to work with GPHC with the sole aim of the programme being to improve paediatric nursing; the first nurse volunteered in 2009. Nurse Yoshida is in the second of her four months at the Paediatric Unit and has already found the experience here to be very worthwhile.

There is a planned nursing education exercise which will be facilitated by Nurse Yoshida and is scheduled for 5th June, 2012 to 27th July, 2012 – ‘Introduction to Paediatric Nursing’. The selected nurses will benefit from 32 hours of lecture sessions and demonstration.

JICA donated a number of items to the Paediatric Unit as part of their volunteer efforts and contributions to the hospital.
