Gov’t surprised by Chief Magistrate’s move to free treason accused-HPS  –to take further action

Georgetown :Head of the Presidential Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon has vowed that Government would be examining the options that exist in the face of the court ruling, today which saw the three treason accused freed on the basis of insufficient evidence. The decision was taken by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine Beharry.

Dr. Luncheon said, while the information under the circumstances in which the trio was released, remains sketchy, he was indeed surprised by the decision.

“I would say I am surprised about the decision of the court and certainly I would want to believe that the matter would not end there…But at this point I would say that we would have to examine what options exist in the face of the court’s ruling, but I am surprised about the decision of the court,” Dr. Luncheon reiterated.

Army Major Bruce Munroe, Carol Munroe and former Reserve Officer, Leonard Wharton were accused and arrested in December 2010, of intending to stage a war in Guyana which would eventually force the President out of office, in order to compel the Guyana Government to change its governing measures.
