Gov’t presents two sets of Law Books to UG

Law BooksGeorgetown: Students of the University of Guyana (UG), particularly those in the Law Programme will now be able to have a better understanding of the Guyana’s Laws through the provision of law books.

Minister of Legal Affairs and Attorney General Anil Nandlall today handed over two sets of books to Professor Jacob Opadeyi, Vice Chancellor of UG, at the Ministry of Legal Affairs. Fourteen books, a collection of Guyana Law Reports over the period 1977-2007, and the Volume of the Laws of Guyana as revised up to 2014, along with the index from 1930-2007, were presented.

A large component of the Modernisation of the Justice Administration Project has been the revision of the Laws of Guyana.

The Minister noted that, “education is not something that should ever be confined to oneself, but must be shared,” and advised that the students make good use of the books and take care of them so that the future generation can be able to benefit from them.

He also added that “these books are intended to advance the additional cause of the students at the University, studying Law.”

Meanwhile Professor Opadeyi expressed his gratitude to the Minister for the intervention, which he said will be very useful to the students.

He added that this contribution to the University will aid the students in the areas of understanding their courses, home work and research.

Recently, copies were presented to the Inter American Development Bank’s (IDB) Representative, Sophie Makonnen, and Chancellor of the Judiciary (ag), Carl Singh.
