Gov’t no longer seeking opposition engagement on Amaila Hydro Project

LuncheonGeorgetown: Government’s Chief Spokesman Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon confirmed that the administration will no longer seek any further engagement with the Opposition Parties on the Amaila Falls Hydro project.

Dr. Luncheon said such a meeting at this time is useless. He is hoping that a miracle would save the Hydro project as the administration moves into the redesigning mode to develop a similar project.

The Cabinet Secretary at his weekly press briefing said while the design of the project maybe dead, he is convinced that renewable energy and its uses is not dead.

The biggest blow to the Amaila Falls Hydro Project came when American developer Sithe Global packed up and left, saying it needed support from all parties. The move by Sithe Global also saw the studies, which were being done by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) coming to a halt.
