Georgetown: Prime Minister and Acting President Moses Nagamootoo, Sunday said that the Government is committed to pay salary increase for 2016 after submission of the COI report.
The Prime Minister was at the time speaking at the May Day Rally held in the National Park.
He explained that instead of one-off payments, the Government would prefer a long-range arrangement that goes beyond wages and salaries. “We want a return to merit increments. We must reward hard work and honesty. We must professionalise the public service and restore respect and commitment to duty.”
With this, the Prime Minister, explained that this year the Coalition Government set aside $43.8 billion for wages and salaries, as employment costs; and an additional $6.6 billion for benefits and allowances.
“Any increase has to await the report of the Lutchman Commission and negotiations, to ensure that we follow procedures, and best practices as regards the relations between government and trade unions”, Prime Minister Nagamootoo stated.
