Gov’t announces $50,000 bonus for majority of public servants

cashGeorgetown: Government has announced that Public Servants earning less than five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) monthly are to receive a one off tax free payment of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) for the month of December 2015.

The Ministry of Finance said the payment will be made to “all active public sector workers” and will be effective in December.

President David Granger announced last week that his administration intended to pay a bonus to all public service employees on his weekly programme, “The Public Interest.”

Some 30,700 public sector workers including nurses, teachers, members of the Disciplined Services and semi-autonomous agencies will benefit.

Since government took office, public servants earning over $50,000 received between a 15 per cent and sex per cent salary increase while those earning less received a higher per cent increase on their salaries.

Additionally, the minimum basic salary was increased to $50,000 from $42, 703 and those persons who were still receiving the old minimum wage of $39,540 received increases.

All increases announced were catered for in the National Budget.
