Government claims no difference regarding 2012 and 2013 budget cuts

Georgetown : Government’s spokesman Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon today said that careful scrutiny with regards to budget cuts in 2012 and 2013 would show no significant differences. He was at the time responding to a question about the call by A Partnership for National Unity for Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh to be cited for contempt.

“These allegations, protestations of the opposition would probably have to find some value in terms of what happened in 2012, and is merely being repeated in 2013, and if 2013 should be the basis for the Minister to be in contempt,” Dr. Luncheon said.

APNU had been referring to Financial Paper 1/2013 which requested parliamentary approval for the sum of $3.384B and included provisions to the National Communications Network and the Government Information Agency.  Monies for the state agencies had been cut from the national budget.

In 2012 the monies for these two agencies had also been cut and subject to a preliminary court ruling from the Chief Justice, had been restored. Steps are being taken to have a final ruling on the matter.
