German delegation pays courtesy call on GECOM’s Chairman

Georgetown : On Thursday December 18, 2014, the German Ambassador to CARICOM and the Eastern Caribbean States resident in Trinidad & Tobago, Mr. Lutz H. Görgens, Ph.D.,  Honorary Consul for the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Ben ter Welle along with the Director of the German Federal Foreign Office responsible for Mexico, Central American and Caribbean affairs, Mr. Rüdiger Lotz, made a courtesy call on the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Dr. Steve Surujbally, to discuss a number of issues pertaining to the Commission’s preparedness,  to ensure the smooth conduct of elections.

 

Among some of the key issues raised during the brief but informative discussion were: GECOM’s preparedness for the imminent National and Regional Elections most likely to be held in early 2015, the Commission’s ability to effectively and efficiently administer and manage Local Government Elections after National and Regional Elections, GECOM’s Public Relations/Civic and Voter Education and its impact on voters and the general public,  enhancing the voting process in Guyana and the Commission’s ability to improve the processing and transmission of elections results.

 

GECOM’s Chairman Dr. Steve Surujbally expressed his gratitude towards the German delegation for their most perceptive queries, and urged them to maintain a high level of interest in what obtains in Guyana, particularly regarding elections and its management.
