German couple murdered in Tobago

The mutilated bodies of German nationals Hubertus Keil, 74, and his wife Birgid, 71, were found on a beach near Bacolet in Tobago yesterday. The Keils had been visiting Tobago for the past fifteen years and were well known locally. Their bodies were found by a gardener. The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) said in a statement that the murders came as a shock to all of Tobago, noting that crime was on the decline in the twin island.

Media reports said that the bodies appeared to bear chop wounds. The couple arrived in Tobago on October 25th and was staying in their Bacolet home, they were last seen alive on Friday last.

The murders fashioned another double slaying in Tobago in 2008 of an elderly Swedish couple, 73-year-old Ake Olsson and his 62-year-old companion Anna Sundsval, who were murdered in their villa.

A high-level police team has already been set up to investigate the double murder in hope of bringing to justice those responsible of the Keil’s deaths.
