Geographic information policy consultation on today

Robert_PersaudGeorgetown: The Natural Resources and Environment Ministry will host a public consultation today on Guyana’s National Policy on Geographic Information.

The consultation is being held at the Guyana Forestry Commission multi-complex building, Kingston.

This consultation will provide a forum to obtain feedback from the general public and organisations regarding the policy.

The National Policy on Geographic Information provides the necessary framework for identifying key datasets needed for socio-economic development, and specifies the mechanism for data collection, storage and dissemination.

The urgent need to create Geographic Information Systems (GIS) ready datasets and use geographic information applications for nation building is becoming more evident by government officials and other stakeholders.

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Robert Persaud will deliver remarks and also present computers to the University of Guyana.
