GDF training attracts 283 recruits

GDF_CRESTGeorgetown: Two hundred and eighty-three recruits departed Defence Headquarters last Friday, to undergo Basic Recruit Training at the Colonel John Clarke Military School, Tacama and Base Camp Seweyo, respectively.

Two hundred of the recruits will undergo training in Tacama while the remainder will be trained at Seweyo, the Guyana Defence Force said in a release. The BRC provides induction training for entrants at the Ordinary Rank level. It is intended to produce fit, obedient, loyal and disciplined soldiers who possess high standards of skills and marksmanship abilities.

Soldiers from the last batch of recruits completed training on June 20, 2014, and have already been attached to units across the Force. Like that batch, the recruits currently in Seweyo, upon successful completion of the 10 weeks of rigorous training, will be posted to the technical and specialist units of the Force.

This is the last course for 2014.The next recruit course will assemble in March 2015, and again, the Force is anticipating giving young able bodied males and females an opportunity to serve Guyana and build a worthwhile career in the Guyana Defence Force.
