Georgetown: A Guyana Defence Force captain, Orwain Sandy is in police custody after he shot and killed his reputed wife Saturday morning on the public road in Alexander Village, Georgetown.
He was recently appointed as the Aide de Camp to the GDF Chief of Staff.
Dead is Unique Rihanna Payne. Reports indicate that the couple was arguing in a car when the woman exited and Sandy reportedly picked up the gun and shot her dead.
Captain Sandy then made his way to the Ruimveldt Police Station nearby where he handed himself into police custody after shooting the woman multiple times.
Persons in the Alexander village area said the two came out of the man’s car fighting and the man pulled out his weapon and fired several shots at her. Her body was left to the side of the road as he drove from the scene.
The man’s ex-wife later turned up at the Police station after receiving news of the incident. Last year Sandy was awarded the best graduating student of the Officer’s Course. Two years ago, he graduated with from the University of Guyana with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
