Georgetown: The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited (GBTI) Thursday commissioned its 24th Automated Teller Machine (ATM) service. The new location is now on the public road of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara next to the market area. The company also plans to roll out Smart ATM machines in the future in keeping with technological developments. The company has 12 branches and a head office. In attendance were GBTI staff, Regional Chairperson, Region Four, Genevieve Allen; Regional Executive Officer (REO), Pauline Lucas, teachers, students and special invitees. GBTI's Corporate Secretary, Shaleeza Shaw who is the acting CEO explained that Smart ATMs certainly add to the face-to-face and digital banking channels already available. Like most new banking technologies, they have the potential to make life a bit more convenient. She said one of the main benefits is that the Smart ATM could be a decent alternative to visiting a bank branch since a patron can changed their password, receive deposits, and transfer money between accounts or clear cheques amongst some of its features. Regent St. Branch Manager Roxanne Welcome-Europe said GBTI has a rich history that sees its origin over180 years ago, since the establishment of the Colonial Banks in 1836. Emerging from such firm foundations, the manager said the Bank have always stood undeniably in the forefront of the application of Banking technologies through embracing of change and approaches in the computerized and tech-savvy arena. “Spearheading internally with the installation of computerized work stations, to, the introduction of Guyana’s first ATM in 1994 which was housed at our Water Street – then main Branch,” Welcome-Europe said. She continued: “ We are extremely proud of our network of 13 branches providing 21st century Banking solutions and services to our valued customers in areas such as Port Kaituma, Lethem, Bartica , Providence, Port Mourant, you would recognize that in many instances we stand solo in the provision of Banking services in those areas.” She emphasised that the Bank always considers the needs of its customers paramount in decision making. Underscoring that GBTI has 131 merchants housing over 175 point of sale Terminals throughout the country, the Reagent Street Manager said the harnessing of technological Banking services will continue, even as the bank considers and embrace the preservation of the environment through a green economy. She concluded by noting that the bank offers services such as online and mobile Banking, night deposit and safe deposit services, Visa Credit and Debit Cards, Loans and advances from start up to commercial and even Green Loans.
