West Indies batsman Chris Gayle has scored the fastest century in the history of professional cricket, the hard hitting opening batsman made a hundred off 30 balls for the Royal Challenger today against the Purne Warriors in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Gayle hammered Pune Warriors' bowling attack to all corners his hundred including seven dot balls, four singles, eight fours and 11 sixes.
He eventually finished on 175 not out, the highest T20 score ever, off 66 deliveries, which included 13 fours and 17 sixes at a strike rate of 265.15.
The left-hander's 30-ball ton beat the previous 34-ball Twenty20 record set by Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds.
The record in 50-over cricket is Shahid Afridi's 37-ball ton for Pakistan against Sri Lanka in 1996.
The Test record belongs to Gayle's fellow West Indian stars Viv Richards, who whacked England for a 56-ball 100 in Antigua back in 1986.
