GAPSO Dissatisfied with the Security Company contracted for Hero CPL in Guyana

Georgetown : The Guyana Association of Security Organizations (GAPSO) is dissatisfied and shocked with the company selected to provide Security at the Providence National Stadium in Guyana. With thousands of fans schedule to be at the National Stadium for the competition today, GAPSO was reliable informed that a private security firm, “GLOBAL SECURITY SERVICE” was chosen to provide security services for the matches scheduled to be played in Guyana. GAPSO checked and double checked and found some alarming details, mainly: GLOBAL SECURITY SERVICE is not approved by the Guyana Police Force to conduct private security services in Guyana. According to the Private Security Act 2009: “…..no person or company shall commence or continue to carry on the business of private security service in Guyana without obtaining a licence from the Controlling Authority” It would be illegal and shameful for CPL to engage the services of a company that is not properly licenced as stipulated in the Private Security Act. GAPSO is therefore calling on the Guyana Police force to investigate GLOBAL SECURITY SERVICE to ensure that they are operating within the law. GAPSO categorically states that its members which includes: Banks DIH, Security Alliance, Kalibur, Massy Security, Integrated Security Services, Amazon Security, Brans Security, MMC Security, GEB Security, Correia’s Security, Federal Management Systems, Sentinel Security, West Demerara Gold, John Fernandes Ld, Bank of Guyana, Glenkiev, Guyoil and GNIC has amongst these members extensive experience in the security of sporting and other major events and has been trained and qualified by City and Guilds of London in Evacuations, Fire safety, Crowd Control among others that are relevant to security for major events. Guyana has successfully hosted many prestigious sports events in the past but this recent development is an insult against GAPSO and the private security industry. CPL cannot be allowed to encourage and endorsing illegal practices of companies, specifically in the security sector. GAPSO will continue to work extremely hard with its members to ensure that they comply with the laws, promote the best policies and practices, provide training, set industry standards and provide the necessary resources that are needed to succeed in the industry.
