Four-lane road work on East Coast to commence shortly

East Coast Demerara : Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon disclosed that works will commence shortly on the construction of a four- lane highway on the East Coast of Demerara.

Dr. Luncheon pointed out that the initial phase of work which will cost the Government approximately $500M, will see works being undertaken from Plaisance/Better Hope, eastward to Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara.
The works which will significantly reduce the traffic build-up along the East Coast corridor will be contracted using public funds and overseen by the Ministry of Public Works.

“Funds have already been identified for the initial mapping, excavation and drainage works needed to be undertaken during the construction of the four lane highway.  Most of the work that you would see being done initially would be on the northern side where the extension would provide for the four-lane road more readily available then on the southern side,” Dr. Luncheon stated.
