Four eathquakes within five hours off Barbados

Bridgetown : Four earthquakes struck off Barbados this morning in the space of five hours – three of them within minutes of each other, including one that caused the evacuation of some buildings across the island.

After a 5.3 magnitude tremor was recorded at 7:01 a.m, a stronger 6.4 magnitude quake shook the island, sending residents scampering out of buildings, around 11:16 a.m.

The other two followed at 11:29 a.m. (4.1 magnitude) and 11:36 a.m. (5.3 magnitude).

All the tremors occurred northeast of the island.

UPDATE: Another aftershock of 3.8 magnitude was recorded at 12:23 p.m. Located 97 km NNE of Bridgetown, Barbados; 184 km E of Castries, St. Lucia; and 208 km SE of Fort-de-France, Martinique.

They were also felt in neighbouring St. Lucia, Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Vincent and Martinique.
