Former Almond Beach workers receive severance payments

Bridgetown.

Several former workers of Almond Beach Village received their severance payments yesterday, they enter their former workplace and came out smiling having received their money.

A number of the former employees of the hotel said they were happy to receive the payment.

General Secretary of the Barbados Workers Union Sir Roy Trotman, says the future of the workers are still in limbo after the Elite Island Resort  the new prospective owners of Allmond Beach Village failed to turn up for a meeting with the major shareholders Neal &Massy earlier this week.

Sir Roy said the the non attendance of representatives from Elite Islands Resorts had an impact on  the discussions with the with the ex members of staff.

"The intention of the meeting was to have Almond Beach Club inform us formally of what their plans are for the future of the hotel. They were able to give us some of that information but we  were not able to have as full a discussion as we wanted to", says Sir Roy.

"It is not enough to know that Almond Beach Club wish to sell their shares to Elite Islands Resorts without at a same time being in a position to hear from the new company what are their plans for the property and workers", he added.
