Fly Jamaica airline given green light to service Toronto, New York routes

airGeorgetown: The green light has been given to Fly Jamaica airline to fly the Georgetown to Toronto and New York routes, according to Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon who made the disclosure today.

Adding that the approval was granted after a recommendation by Transport Minister Robeson Benn and an evaluation by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, Luncheon noted  

With the pull out Delta Airlines which made its final flight out of Guyana in May bringing in about 70 and taking out more than 150 passengers . Government officials had also scrambled to lure international carriers like Jet Blue and Air Canada to Guyana.  The decision came just about months after Delta Airlines ceased flying the New York route because according to that carrier, it was no longer profitable to do so.

Fly Jamaica had from early last year declared its intention to service Guyana. Fly Jamaica, that island’s newest carrier, is partially owned by Guyanese national, Ronald Reece, and Jamaican investors. Reece also owns Ogle-based Wings Aviation.
