Five injured as bus splits in two on highway

Chaguanas: An articulated bus traveling from north to south Trinidad along the Uriah Butler Highway, split in two this afternoon injuring five people including two infants.

Police reports indicate that the bus driver, Carolyn Warner, swerved to avoid hitting a vehicle which stopped suddenly in front of her.

The bus, which is part of the Public Transport Services Corporation fleet split into two as the front section veered off the road. The five injured passengers were rushed to the Chaguanas Medical Health Facility.

The driver of the bus was said to be  traumatised and also needed medical assistance.

The accident led to a traffic pile up on the highway as curious motorists slowed down to see what was happening. A high powered PTSC team was on the scene within minutes. PTSC's deputy manager of operations Brian Juanette assured the mishap was not a refelction of PTSC's standards.

Chaguanas police are continuing their investgations.
