Berbice : A search team is combing the Corentyne River for the body of a boat captain who is feared drowned, after he and his two-man crew, were attacked and robbed of their catch and a 40hp Yamaha Engine, yesterday about one mile in the Corentyne River, in the vicinity of Tain Settlement, Corentyne, Berbice.
Enquiries disclosed that the fishermen ventured out to sea, to fish on Monday May 15, 2017 at 4pm in a wooden boat powered by a 40hp Yamaha Engine.
About 4:30pm yesterday they were attacked and robbed of their valuables by two masked men, one armed with a cutlass.
It was further alleged, that the pirates after committing the crime, placed the victims into their (pirates) boat and ordered them to jump over-board which they did but not before the captain Mahadeo Ramdyal C/D Chico, was struck to his head by one of the pirates with a cutlass.
The crew members alone managed to swim to a vessel anchored some 100 meters from the shore.
The missing captain is 44 years and resides at Kilcoy/Chesney Squatting Area, Corentyne.
Investigation is in progress.
