Firemen goes to court

Four firemen have filed an injunction against the Barbados Fire Service claiming they have been unjustifiably overlooked for promotion.

David Hinds, Stanley Absalom, Wesley Holder and Clarence Hinds contending that they will be disadvantaged by an interview process that has selected fire officers who are junior to them to positions they were acting in.

In the application for judicial review, Chief Fire Officer Wilfred Marshall has been named as the first defendant, Chief Personnel Officer Gail Atkin as the second defendant, Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Home Affairs Lucine Wharton -Isaac as the third defendant and the Attorney General as the fourth defendant.

The four fire officers were acting in offices above their substantive posts for more than one year, which is the statutory period within a vacant office in the Public Service must be filled.
