A loud explosion at the back of the Daphne Joseph-Hackett theatre last night sparked a fire at a building housing a major transformer that powers Queens Park.
The park was left in darkness as the blaze threatened to spread to the historic building.
Members of the Barbados Fire Service, and a crew from the Barbados Light and Power had to disconnect the power before fire fighters started to extinguish the blaze.
The fire-fighters were able to contain the blaze to the building popularly known as the stables.
