Financial crime on the rise

Bridgetown.

The rise of financial crime in Barbados has forced the Royal Barbados Force to expand the squad dealing with those cases,

and also seek help from aboard.

Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin told a Press briefing yesterday that  for the first quarter of the year the  Fraud Squad  were dealing with cases including fraud within institutions,credit card and cheque fraud totalling more than $1.5 million.

Dottin told the Pfess, the workload of the investigators had increased to the extent that he had to expand the members of  Fraud Squad.

"I have 17 officers working on financial crimes, and we have taken the decision that we need to improve the skills in the financial section", Dottin said.

We are working very closely with UK experts.The British High Commission here has kindly made some experts available to us

to improve the skills of those officers who are working in this section", he added.
