Farmers must be prepared for the hurricane season

Bridgetown.

Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS)  James Paul, says while  it is difficult to prepare for a storm adequately in the agricultural sector, there are some steps that can be taken to mitgate the impact.

In an interview with Trakker News, Paul lamented that in some wrost case scenario some farmers may have to start all over again. He stated that farmers need to realise that their crop will be hard hit and should be cognisant of that harsh reality.

"One of the things we encourage farmers to do is to store item such as seeds because after a storm has passed, they can be planted again", Paul said.

"Livestock have their own instincts, so we advise people not to tie their livestock during a storm", he added.
