Family homeless after fire

Port of Spain; A family of four lost their home by what is being described as a mysterious fire. Bhola Rampersad 29, his wife Sabita Charles 25,and their two young daughters Anjali 5, and Ashley 3, were the occupants of the Williamsville home. Rampersad is distraught about the entire situation and says he does not know where or how to begin to rebuild his house, since all of his family's savings went towards building  the plyboard structure at Duff Road Hardbargain.

The family occupied the house for the past six years, this weekend they were at the home of Charles' grandmother at Boodoo Trace Penal when the fire took place. Charles sister called and told her the house was on fire, but by the time they reached Williamsville the house was completely destroyed. The couple said they lost everything including all their documents, clothes and household valuables.

Rampersad's father is claiming the house was built on rented land contrary to the land tenant agreement because the owner gave allowance for one house to be built and not two. However Rampersad's father lives just next door to where the fire took place and says he will not allow his son to rebuild a structure there.

The family is asking for assistance to find a house. Housing Minister Dr. Roodal Moonilal and Minister of the People Dr. Glen Ramadharsingh said the family can qualify for an emergency grant as well as a food card. Enquires are also being made to find out if they can receive emergency housing.
