Family Commission re-launched, legislation to be examined

Georgetown: The National Commission for the Family was re-launched Monday afternoon by the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.

Chairing the commission is Member of Parliament, Reverend Kwame Gilbert. Other members include Aleema Nasir, Cyril Belgrave, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, Rev. Patrick Findlay, Father Terrence Montrose, Pandit Rabindra Persaud, Pamela Nauth and Yvonne Stephenson amongst others

The Commission will be responsible for censorship actions to anything it believes can be injurious or harmful to family life. The commission will also deal with positive contributions to enhance the stability of family life.

The simple ceremony was held this morning at the Cara Lodge, Quamina Street, Georgetown.

It was pointed out also that over the coming weeks the Commission will be looking to examine other existing legislations with a view to determining relevance, applicability and amendments if necessary.

The Family Code has already been approved by Cabinet and according to Reverend Gilbert.
