Employer’s Authority calls for quick end to cement company strike

Port-of-Spain: The Employers' Consultative Association (ECA) says it is deeply troubled by the strike action taken by the Oilfields Workers Trade Union (OWTU)and workers of Trindad Cement Limited, saying that it is negatively impacting productivity and crippling the operations in many companies.

The ECA says it maintains its position that resorting to strike or lockout action will not advance the cause for social or economic progress and it is calling for an immediate end to the industrial action.

The ECA is applauding TCL for it's willingness to continue to meet with the union to bring a resolution to the matter.

It says prolonged industrial action will have a deep and wide impact on this country's economy.

The ECA is challenging both parties in the dispute to see the benefit of returning to the bargaining table to engage in honest, sincere conversations that would lead to an outcome where not only the workers would benefit but one in which there would be alignment between increased wages and productivity gains.
