OreallaBerbice River :  Residents of Orealla, an Amerindian Community located in the East Corentyne -Berbice Region of Guyana on the Corentyne River approximately 53km south of Crabwoodcreek, will be able to access electricity again.

The Amerindian Ministry fixed the generator at a cost of $377,000.

Orealla’s Toshao (village leader) Floyd Edwards expressed gratitude to Government for delivering on its promise in a timely manner.

He said that the part will resolve the electricity woes that the community has been facing for the past few months. “This will make the plant functional and back the service because in Orealla electricity is not a luxury anymore, it’s a lifestyle,” Toshao said.

Toshao Edwards said that the community depends strongly on the electricity to preserve their meat, students to study in a more comfortable atmosphere, and to ensure operationability of the school’s computer systems.20090914amerindians

The village leader explained that the community continues to face challenges with the generator because there are not enough houses linked to the system to maintain it.

He said that the community’s council requested some additional cables from the Prime Minister’s office for which they were assured that they will receive soon.

The generator was given to Orealla by Government through a promise that was made by Former President Bharrat Jagdeo about four years ago.
