Elderly woman a victim of water theft

Bridgetown.

An elderly woman has been paying a bill for the last two years for water was being stolen from her.

Evidence obtained by the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) shows that the senior citzen  water supply could have been tapped on three separate occasions over a two year period to feed six apartments located behind her home.

Each time the Hill Road, Bank Hall, St Michael, apartments had their water supply disconnected, there was a spike in the old woman's  bill.

The last time the apartments’ water supply was cut off was on February 13 this year and the elderly woman’s bill again rose sharply.

The scam was discovered after a family member of the old woman discovered that for the last two months, her water bills were extremely  high one was more than $500 and the other above $600.

A plumber was hired to check for leaks on the property and a additional connection was found  leading to the apartments behind the house.

After personnel from the BWA checked and discovered the connection was illegal the pipes were severed.
