Eight year old hospitalised after being hit by a truck

Berbice: An accident that occurred at Kingelly Village, West Coast Berbice, sometime after 07:00hrs yesterday has led to eight-year-old Ashley Gouvia being admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation's Pediatric Ward, nursing injuries to her body.

According to the child’s grandmother, Marie Hawker, her granddaughter had left home to attend the #29 Primary School when the accident occurred.

She said that she was not at the scene but was told that Ashley was crossing the road when she was struck down.

The school child fell to the ground and was later taken to Fort Wellington Hospital before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

The worried grandmother said that the girl would have to spend “nights” in the hospital because of the injuries.

“She got bruises on her skin and a long cut to her private part because the pick-up hit her to her side".

The driver of the pick-up is currently in police custody.
