Education Month commences

download (1)Georgetown: September 1 marks the beginning of Education Month in Guyana and as such, a number of activities have been slated to commemorate this year’s month-long agenda in promoting education throughout the country.
Under the theme “Quality Education Leadership: Improving Schools from Within”, the Education Ministry will host the official launching of Education Month 2015 at the Theatre Guild, Georgetown, tomorrow. During this event there will be the presentation of the Sagicor Visionaries Awards for the year 2014 and simultaneously the launch of Sagicor Visionaries 2015.
On September 8, there will be the “Give a Book Today” throughout the 10 administrative regions where persons would be expected to devote some time towards reading at 11:00h. There will also be a reading fair held on Main Street, Georgetown on the same date.
At the National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD) in Kingston, Georgetown, there will be the launching of the Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development on September 10.
During the month-long celebrations, there will be a seminar for headteachers and principals of Education Districts Three, Four, Five, Six, 10 and Georgetown under the theme “Educational Leaders as Agents of Change”. This seminar will be held on September 15 at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre, Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown.
Other activities for the rest of the month include the launch of the Guyana Early Childhood Education Project in Region Seven, rally for education, school steel bands presentation, a technological fair, award ceremony for attendance and punctuality of learners, and an Open Day at the Cyril Potter College of Education.
There will also be a National Award Ceremony for Outstanding Performance of schools and learners which will be the last event for Education Month and will be held at the National Cultural Centre.
