Education Ministry clears way for $188M textbook purchase

LuncheonGeorgetown: Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon recently revealed that over $188 million would be expended by the Government for the acquisition of textbooks and other reading materials to further equip the Education Ministry.

The announcement was made during Dr Luncheon’s post-Cabinet media briefing. According to Dr Luncheon, some $18.8 million would be used for the acquisition of interactive reading books.

He pointed out that the remaining sums would be split between three different publishers for the acquisition of textbooks for both secondary and primary schools in Guyana.

Moving on, Luncheon reported that the sum of $260.9 million was awarded by way of contract for the construction of an all-weather road in Region Five ( Mahaica/Berbice). The Head of the Presidential Secretariat also related that an amount of $172,804,095 will be used for the construction three Aquastore Glass-steel tanks. This will allow increased capacity of the Bartica, Eccles and Sophia water treatment plants. Another $18.6 million was awarded for the construction of a Fire Station at La Grange on the West Bank of Demerara.
