Barbados'economy grew by 2.8 between January and March this year, says  Governor of the Central Bank Dr.DeLisle Worrel.

Speaking to journalists at his first quarterly report  for the year, Dr Worrell said that the deficit has improved; there was an increase in the foreign reserves and unemployment numbers showed a drop from 11.2 percent  last September to 10.5 in December.

According to Dr.Worrell, the growth in the economy was due an encouraging winter season.

"Tourism receipts contributed 60 percent of foreign exchange inflows in the first quarter, with other services; mainly international business and financial services contributing a further 12 percent", Dr Worrell said.

He warned that inflation is expected to continue to accelerate, under pressure of international oil and commodity prices.
