Early morning fire destroys five houses, car at Kitty – more than 30 homeless

Georgetown :At about minutes to 1 a.m. today fire started in a two storey wooded building at Railway street kitty and quickly spread to four other nearby houses. The yard where the fire started is known to be a place where junkies would spend time drinking unlicensed alcohol and smoke marijuana.

When this publication reached the scene four of the houses were gutted and firemen were seen trying to save a corner building at the junction of Sandy Babb Street and Railway line but was unsuccessful.

Initial reports stated that more than 30 people were left homeless and were unable to salvage anything.

That building housed Ramprashad Liquor Store and off licenses liquor outlet and is also popularly known as “Aunty Lynette Shop” Although several fire engines arrived at the scene they were all out of water and that angered resident as they came out of bed and witnessed houses burnt to the ground.

At one point firemen were seen holding the horse in their hand powerlessly watching the fire taking control.

Mrs Ramprashad called Aunty Lynette, looked helplessly her entire savings and investment went up in flames. Speaking to TrakkerNews she said if the fire department were more equipped her building would have saved or even half of her stocks. She sadly said only a few days ago she restocked her business worth millions for the upcoming Valentine’s and Mashramani celebrations since her wholesale business would be up at those times.

A parked car that was left on the parapet was also burnt.

 

The victims are all awaiting a fire report.
