Duo nursing gunshot wounds

St. John’s Antigua:  A hail of gunfire rained into a Boones Alley home in Point during the predawn hours of Tuesday and when the shooting stopped, two occupants of the house had been shot and a family pet was killed.

“We heard a shot and then a pause for about five seconds and another four or five shots followed. All this time we were hiding for cover,” 28-year-old Natamba Jardine recounted yesterday from his hospital bed. “When it went quiet again, I realised I had a burning in my leg and when I pulled up my pants foot, I realised I was shot.”

The Villa man was struck in the left leg and his friend, 23 year-old Sean William of Greenbay, was shot in the left wrist. Doctors have already operated on Williams and he is scheduled for release while Jardine will have to wait until the swelling in his leg subsides to have the bullet removed.

“It’s a weird experience,” Jardine said. “It was life-threatening and …the doctor said based on the angle of my bullet, it could have been worse. I was struck while on the floor.”

Meantime, Williams told Observer Media he’s “doing ok.”

According to the injured duo, a young lady and another male companion had just arrived at the Boones Alley house from a Popeshead Street nightclub.

“We went to the baker shop first, so when we got there, we were just sitting, eating and just chilling in the living room. I was about to leave and when I got to the door … I heard the first shot,” Jardine said.

The young men were rushed Mount St John’s Medical Centre via ambulance.

Police are investigating the 4 am shooting and advise anyone with information on the matter to contact the Criminal Investigation Department at 462-3913\4, or call Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).

Meanwhile, police are looking into another incident where an 18-year-old female was shot at while inside her Ottos home.

According to Police, the young woman and a man with whom she is acquainted apparently had a disagreement over an electrical cord he had lent to her and some time about 9:45 am on Tuesday, the man began firing shots at her from outside of her home, after which he fled the scene.

There were no reported injuries.

Reliable sources confirmed that a search was carried out for the gunman, however at the time of going to press it was still unclear if he was apprehended.
