Berbice : At about minutes to 1:00am today, Sunita Persaud, 23 years, of Rosehall, Corentyne, was struck down by a motor vehicle while crossing the Port Mourant Public Road. She was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital and referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she later succumbed.
The driver of the motor vehicle, who attempted to flee the scene and was found to be over the legal limit in relation to the consumption of alcohol, is in police custody.
