Drug abuse among children a major concern

Bridgetown.

To many children in Barbados are being exposed to drugs.

Manager of the National Council on Substance Abuse,Yolande Forde  told the media over the weekend, that children as young young as seven and eight years are being exposed to or taking drugs.

According to Forde, in those situations it is uusually because  there is drug use in that child's household.

"At a latter age, beyond 11, they might  are getting drugs from a different source, the block or the school, but under the age of 11 it is a home phenomenon and we cannot escape that in Barbados", said Forde.

"We have to realise that there are communities and homes in Barbados in which the use fo marijunana is the norm", Forde added.
