Diamond Sugar workers cautioned not to be used for political gain.

Georgetown: The Diamond Sugar workers have waged a battle for several years to be terminated and compensated for their years of valuable service over many decades. GuySuCo had refused to honour these legitimate requests and had instead tried to re-assign the workers at estates at Wales and LBI; irrespective of the massive hardship that this was causing.
The AFC's leaders Trotman and Ramjattan, and other labour rights activists, including Norris Witter, had taken this matter up by making representations with GuySuCo, and staging several public protests and meetings. It is now with a deep sense of satisfaction that we recognize that the workers have been vindicated in their just struggle and the rule of law has been respected finally, the party said.

The AFC says that it expects that both the President and the Board of Directors of Guysuco, including Donald Ramotar, will honour this announcement and not use it as a political devise to "buy" votes in an election year, and that similarly, the workers will see this development as their just rewards after a long struggle, and not as a hand out or favour being extend to them by a caring government.
